The Elite Trainer Box has long been a popular option for starting a new Pokemon collection. They’re packed full of goodies, ranging from special art cards for collectors, to sleeves and counters for players. And, of course, the packs. So what does the Elite Trainer Box Plus do different?
Apart from being in an incredibly fancy box (I mean, gold and black always look good together), the Elite Trainer Box Plus packs some punches. The box contains one of two actually fantastic promotional cards. Zacian V and Zamazenta V are both highly-used and contested cards in both Standard and Unlimited Pokemon. Zacian as an offensive attacker and Zamazenta to shut down your opponents Pokemon VMAXes!
Stacks of Packs
Instead of the normal 8 packs you get in a traditional ETB, the Elite Trainer Box Plus has 12! This is made up of various amounts from Sword and Shield Base Set, Darkness Rising, Rebel Clash and Vivid Voltage. The sleeves feature either Zacian and Zamazenta, and have a holographic gold inside to accentuate your rarest cards. The box also has brand new metal counters, dice and coins! These weight pieces are gold and black, like the box, and the coin has either Zacian or Zamazenta engraved into it!
Onto the decks themselves, starting with the first to be released. Sword and Shield Base Set remains a powerful set in Standard, and will likely still be legal during the next rotation. This set contains some of the best full-art trainers in any set, including Marnie, Bede, and two Team Yell Grunts. You can also get more copies of Zacian V or Zamazenta V for a full playset!
Digging for Gold
Next up in the Elite Trainer Box Plus, Rebel Clash. This set contains some great Pokemon Vs and VMAXes! Cards like Cinderace V, Sandaconda V and Falinks V all make an appearance in this set. Obviously, there are also some great trainers in the set. Oleana, Boss’s Orders, Sonia and Milo are all still very powerful cards! Their full art versions also look fantastic, as is tradition.
Darkness Ablaze is where things ramp up, big time. Charizard V, Salamence V and Vikavolt V make an appearance, as well as some fantastic alt arts for Turbo Patch and Big Parasol. This deck also features a huge amount of cards used in standard, like Bird Keeper, Rose and the fantastic Crobat V. This card is still used in almost every deck thanks to its fantastic card draw ability, Dark Asset, which lets you draw up to 6 cards.
Finally, the newest set in the box. Vivid Voltage introduces the new Amazing Rare rarity, with Zamazenta, Zacian, Jirachi, Rayquaza, Raikou and Celebi! These cards burst out of their border with a rainbow explosion, and look great on the table. The set also has the ultra-rare Gigantamax Pikachu VMAX, in all his chubby glory!
All together, the Elite Trainer Box Plus is great. Not only playable promo cards, but top tier ones. 12 packs that include some great chase cards and play cards. Very nice feeling metal dice and coins to play the game just add to it, as well as the overall presentation. A fantastic purchase!
