Digimon Resurgence & Adventure Box 02 Preview

Resurgence

As the summer is now over, all Digi-destined and Digimon fans are starting to look forward to the new products and cards coming for the next game season. Before the first main set releases later in the year, Bandai has actually decided to release the first “RB”, “Resurgence Booster” (RB-01). The first main difference of this set with respect to all other sets released so far is that all cards will be holo-foil (or better). Moreover, the set will include re-prints of very good cards from older sets to allow both any player to stock-up on all these very useful cards. It this will not be enough, the English version of Resurgence Booster will also contain 9 exclusive reprint cards. There is a lot to dig in this set!!!

Right Out Of The Booster: What Can I Pull?

At the moment, RB-01 set is expected to include 21 Foil Commons, 25 Foil Uncommons, 32 Foil Rares, 21 Textured Foil Super Rares, 7 Textured Foil Secret Rares (!!) and 17 Textured Foil Promotional cards. In total, there are 123 cards in this set and a total of 19 alternative arts.

Each booster pack will contain as usual 12 cards with 2 Rares/Super Rares/Secret Rares/Alternative Arts and each box will include 24 booster packs for a total of 288 cards. Each box will also come with a box topper pack featuring one out of 7 Alternative arts: Gammamon (RB1-005), Jellymon (RB1-011), Angoramon (RB1-020), Hiro Amanokawa (RB1-032), Kiyoshiro Higashimitarai (RB1-033), Ruli Tsukiyono (RB1-034) and a stunning Siriusmon (RB1-010) with very low pull rates.

Furthermore, each box should also include a Promotional pack with one out of 9 English exclusive cards: Veedramon (BT1-115), Hiro Amanokawa (P-062), Ruli Tsukiyono (P-063), Kiyoshiro Higashimitarai (P-064), Siriusmon (P-088), Amphimon (P-089), Diarbbitmon (P-090), Kaiser Nail (ST2-15) and Holy Flame (ST3-15).

What Are The Best Things To Look Forward In RB-01?

As a player and collector, I am really looking forward to Resurgence Booster set being it a full-foil set and the first of its kind. The three best things I am looking forward to get in RB-01 are:

1) Reprint cards. It goes without saying but the most interesting aspect of this sets is the possibility to get very useful cards that lately have been quite hard (and pricey) to find . Among them, I spotted for example Demimeramon (BT3-006) that it is considered THE best Digi-egg for any purple deck and that has been quite hard to find recently. Mimi Tachikawa (BT1-089) is another example of very good green stapler that can find space in any deck and that will synergize perfectly with the Rosemon support recently released and with the Green Digimon support that will be released next year. Lucemon (BT4-115), Omnimon (BT5-086) and Omnimon Zwart (BT5-087) are also a few other examples of good cards you may be interested to get in this set. And, of course, let's not forget the different colours Memory Boost cards.

2) Gammamon support. Among the new cards released in Resurgence Booster, there are definitely some useful cards to strengthen this archetype. First, we have two interesting Lv3 Digimons: one allows you to search other Gammamon cards and a tamer; the other can attack unsuspended Digimon. The newer Lv4 BetaGammamon is also quite a catch

considering it has Raid and the ability to play a Tamer for free when digivolving although the best card of this evolution line is now the lv5 CanoWeissmon that can use all the effects of cards with Gammamon in its name from its evolution. This means this Digimon will be able to use not only all the inherited effects but also all the other abilities making it quite powerful. If this would not be already more than enough to make the archetype interesting. Bandai has decided to release also a new Hiro Amanokawa tamer and an alternative Purple/Red evolution line to evolve your Siriusmon or Arcturusmon into the Lv7 Proximamon.

3) New Digimon Adventure box 02. In parallel to the release of Resurgence Booster, Bandai will also release the new Digimon Adventure box 02. The newer version of the Adventure box, will include 1 out of four new 1.2-inch tall Digimon figures together with 4 booster packs of RB-01 and 1 alternative art card and it can be a great way to collect this set and to get some very nice memory marker. It is not yet clear which alternative arts promo will be featured in this set but I have my money (and my hopes) on Siriusmon and Amphimon.

Final Thoughts: Who Would Like This Set?

Personally, I am looking forward to get my hands on Resurgence Booster. As I got into Digimon not too long ago, I was never able to seize a few of the most prized cards from the very early boxes and I was hoping to see a reprint set like this one to finally fill the gaps.

Together with the reprints, the new cards are very good and there is a lot of hidden potential in the new support for the Gammamon and Jellymon archetype.

Investing in a box of RB-01 would surely be a smart choice for any new player or for everyone that is looking to finally get their hands on cards that have been difficult to find so far. The box will also have the added value of the Gammamon and Jellymon support that will likely be very fun decks to play at least casually

Obviously, if you already have most of the cards reprinted in this set, investing in a box may not provide you a lot of value. It is also very likely that most of the cards will be sold as singles anyway and they will be for sure more affordable than the first edition version of them. In this case, and if you still would like to have a chance of getting some rare cards from this, you may perhaps consider to either buy some single booster packs or, better, to get the new Digimon Adventure Box 2 that is coming up at the same time of this set. This last one would be my recommendation as for almost the same price of 4 booster packs you will also get a nice alternative art card and some great memory markers for your games.
