Kickstarter is a busy, busy place for Board Games at the moment, yet in amongst that busyness Dead Throne has certainly done that. Promises of open world adventures and being able to do 'whatever you want' are bold claims, could they be true? Fallout proved there is a market for this type of adventure and Dead Throne looks to capitalise on this....
Dead Throne
Playing 1-7 players effectively is no easy task, but a lot of thought seems to have gone into how Dead Throne navigates this. The first thing to mention is the innovative 'mechanical market'. This is a mechanism built into the box lid, which stores the in-game market cards in distinctive categories. Players can then access them during the game by sliding a leaver up to release the lock. The cards are then put back after play and locked in place by the aforementioned level.
Fluidity of the gameplay has been a big consideration of the designers, Sharkee Games. The bottom of the box holds the market up and also includes 10 deck boxes which are angled up towards the game - holding everything you need securely to greatly aid set-up and pack away time.
When the game has more than four players, certain actions allow the other players to carry on with their adventures while you perform those actions. This is known as the 4+ rule, explained further by the publisher:
"When the players are interacting with the market, trying to decide what to buy, or when they are battling each other, the other players, if there are four or more total players in the game, will simply skip those player turns. This way, the players battling will have an uninterrupted battle and the players in the market can take their time, buying, selling and swapping items around."
This definitely sounds like it could work...
Throne Room
Each of the players will be battling to win by taking on quests, defeating other players, snatching their unique loot or slapping about a dragon! There are individual quests, that can also be completed by multiple players, so you may need to race for rewards.
You have freedom to go and do your own thing and work your way up to the dragon fight or directly confront other players starting or joining fights.

Almost 600 backers have believed enough in the world of Dead Throne, already unlocking the initial stretch goals. The game currently stands at £44,216 and there is still plenty of time to go for the other stretch goals to be unlocked.
The next stretch goal is unlocked at £51,000, and this is the addition of seven unique miniatures to represent the seven characters within the game. The miniatures will be left grey so that any painters out there can add their own unique style to the game. Visit the Kickstarter page today.
