Bushs Board Games Thing episode 34 banner

We're goin solo! Bush's Board Game Thing sees Andy Bush celebrating board games and the experience of gaming with friends Elouise Carr and Brian Murphy. Each week, expect passion, enthusiasm, and multiple trips through gaming wormholes. This podcast is powered by Zatu - we're making sure the board game cogs keep on turning. Each week, I'll be bringing you the best bits here on the blog and letting you shop the podcast! In this episode, Andy and the gang are taking a look at the best games to play by yourself!

Do you have something that you'd like to share with the team? Maybe a great board game idea? Even when and where you like to listen to the podcast, set the scene. Email [email protected] if you want to get involved with the podcast. For example, if you have any board game disputes, let Andy and co get to the bottom of it!

In these times when many of us have been isolated or finding it hard to meet up with friends and family, Andy, Brian, and Elouise look at how solo gaming can help your mental wellbeing in the current situation. They give us a list of the top 10 games to play by yourself! Today in the blog, we will be summing up our 3 favourites from the podcast!

Everdell

Spend an evening in lonesome bliss by constructing the beautiful Everdell cardboard cut-out tree. Hear the gems clink as you place them on the board and shuffle the intricately drawn cards. You ain't never come across a game more calming than Everdell.

However, its appeal goes far beyond its look and concept. It is a worker placement game, where players need to send their workers out to collect more resources. The mechanics will be familiar to anyone who has played a similar game before, such as Lord of the Waterdeep. Everdell is all about puzzles and challenges, your brain will have a rinse as well as a rest with this game.

PARKS

This is a game celebrating national parks. As well as beautiful artwork, PARKS has a calming theme. Its easy to see why it was mentioned in this episode of Bush''s Board Game Thing as it's the ideal game for a relaxing solo sesh.

In PARKS, players take on the role of hikers. While on the trails these hikers will need to take actions and collect memories. Collecting these memories in sets will allow players to trade them in to visit a National Park at the end of each hike. This is a game all about resourcing, striding, and surviving. No fighting or battling needed. The only weapons needed in this one is campfires and gear. Lose yourself on a tranquil, challenging trail, in a game of PARKS.

Arkham Noir

A little less tranquil than the other two games mentioned above, and a little more...horrifying.

Similar to its predecessor, Arkham Horror, however this time you are playing as a private investigator, Howard Lovecraft attempting to uncover the truth behind bad doings, missing children, and occult incidents. Hopefully, the answer is perfectly rational and not that of the demon dimension. However, it is most likely not.

Taking inspiration from H.P.Lovecraft stories and those from other authors, Arkham Noir will have you fully immersed in the spooky spiritual world as you play away an evening, only to wonder where it went at game's end.
