Board Game Spotlight: Zombicide Wulfsburg

Zombicide Wulfsburg Board Game

In another of our regular board game spotlights, Zatu Games bolts upright from its satin sheets, pupils glowing for some reason as it visually penetrates Zombicide Wulfsburg, the 2016 expansion for Zombicide: Black Plague from Guillotine Games and designers Raphaël Guiton, Jean-Baptiste Lullien and Nicolas Raoult.

The Game

As an expansion for Zombicide: Black Plague, Zombicide Wulfsburg takes players right back to the medieval fantasy zombocalypse of its parent. Set during the unimaginatively named ‘Dark Times’, Chic’s follow up to their 1979 hit decades after the magic had faded, Wulfsburg adds new locations and enemies to the Black Plague experience.

The expansion brings a selection of new tiles (making up the eponymous new location) and, of course, four new survivors: Ariane, who’s face is pointing the opposite way to her crossbow, which is exactly how you accidentally slay your in-laws at a barbecue; Karl, a wizard with the name of a gym instructor; Theo, a man; and Morrigan, who has a patented crotch mask.

These new, adequately crossbowed characters must contend with an all new threat: wolves infected with the zombie virus, and their big daddy, the Wolfbomination, which sounds like an independent state of explosive hounds.

The Publisher

Guillotine Games is a board game publisher originally founded in 2011 by members of the art department from Rackham Entertainment. Zombicide was their first release, and has been a huge success, spawning a series of expansions. Zombicide: Black Plague was no different, spawning the above.

The Designers

Guiton, Lullian and Raoult are said art department from Rackham. When Rackham closed, they decided they liked their team too much to go down with it, and thus Guillotine Games and Zombicide were born. If they’re like Beetlejuice, they’re about to walk into this office.
