Today in our Spotlight segment we will be building a team of superheroes, as we cast a light on the Legendary Marvel Deck-Building game.
Legendary Marvel is a cooperative deck-building game in which players will build their deck of super-powered individuals in order to combat evil masterminds such Magneto and Dr Doom.
The game
In the Legendary Marvel Deck Building game, your goal is to defeat the mastermind and prevent his minions from over-running the city. You do this by recruiting the earth's mightiest heroes and forming them into teams, the way by which you do this in the game is by drafting cards from the deck, which will contain fourteen cards of up to five heroes. Heroes in the core game include Ironman, the Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Spiderman, and many more.
Each turn you will draw from your player deck, and use the recruitment and fight values of the cards in your hand, to enlist new heroes to your cause and beat the villains. It's the combinations that these hero cards can form that will enable you to take on the game's masterminds and secure the city, but beware they are not going to be easily defeated!! With new villains such as Venom, Mystique and even the Sentinals entering the city each turn your heroes will be pushed to their limits.
Being a superhero was never easy but with a team at your fingertips, and you in command, the city still stands a chance. Just remember that with great power, comes great responsibility.
Marvel
Marvel is one of the hottest franchises around! It began with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's creation of the Fantastic Four and now includes over 750 heroes ranging from Mutants to Spider enhanced individuals! There really is a hero for everyone. With Disney's recent purchase of the Marvel group and the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the company has never been more popular!
With multiple film releases every year and merchandising going through the roof it's really a great time to be a comic book fan.
Upper Deck
Upper deck was founded in 1988, by Paul Summer and Richard Mcwilliams, and started out producing baseball and Hockey cards before moving into other sports merchandise such as figurines and die-cast models.
In 2002 they moved into competitive card games, taking on the YU-GI-OH! license from Konami, so they could produce the cards in English, French, German and Italian, however, they lost this license in 2009. Subsequently, they started producing their own card games under the name Legendary. The Legendary catalogue includes Alien and Predator deck building games as well as the Marvel game with each having a different twist on the genre.
Legendary Marvel is available from our online store as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy expansion, which contains many heroes and villains from the comics and smash-hit movie.
