Battlefield 1 heads back to World War One

Battlefield_1

The brand-new Battlefield game has been unveiled by DICE and Electronic Arts and will be set during World War One, under the name of Battlefield 1.

The first official trailer was released during a live stream event on Friday night which revealed to the world that the series was heading back in time.

In the trailer itself if is all-out chaos as war engulfs the world. Several locations are shown in the reveal trailer, including Arabia, France, the Italian Alps and the famous trenches. Forest and jungle areas were also shown, with soldiers battling their way through the trees.

Alongside all of the cool locations in Battlefield 1, it seems that there will also be plenty of vehicles... and plenty of ways to enter the battle! You will get the chance to control biplanes, battleships and several different types of tank.

Trains are also visible in the video, but perhaps the most intriguing shots were of characters entering the battle on their horses in the Arabian Deserts. It very much looks like it is possible to be involved in tank vs horseback warfare!

DICE are promising plenty of customisation options when it comes to guns and other weapons. On the reveal trailer you can see flamethrowers, swords, shovels, bats and several guns including shotguns and early versions of the machine gun. Class types in the game will include standard assault, medic, support and scout.

It looks like the unpleasant gas attacks may also be featured, with gas masks being used in the reveal video.  DICE say that players will be able to choose how to react in a chemical attack - either by putting their mask on and charging through it, or by locating a different route to avoid it.

Destruction is also visible throughout, with planes crashing into windmills and other buildings - causing them to collapse. Aircraft's parts were being blown-off during the battles in the skies. The destruction of buildings and vehicles is one of the main things that Battlefield has going for it in the 'war' against Call of Duty.

There will be a full story campaign and it is said that the multiplayer on the game will allow for a full suite of up to 64 players!

Battlefield 1 actually has two separate release dates depending on the version of the game you wish to own. Those who pre-order the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition of the game will receive the game on October 18.

The Early Enlister Deluxe Edition comes with four bonus packs; the Red Baron Pack, Lawrence of Arabia Pack, Harlem Hellfighter Pack and vehicle appearance pack. These packs include the following:

  • Red Baron - The Red Baron's Triplane, Red Baron's P08 Sidearm and the Red Baron's Flyer Pin Emblem.
  • Lawrence of Arabia - The Lawrence of Arabia's (LoA) Black Stallion Horse, the LoA's SMLE weapon, LoA's Jambiya Melee option and the LoA's Emblem.
  • Vehicle Appearance - Frontline Camouflage Train, Night Raid Airship and the Dazzle Camouflage Dreadnought.
  • Harlem Hellfighter - The Hellfighter Trench Shotgun, Hellfighter M1911 sidearm, the Hellfighter Bolo Knife Melee option and the Hellfighter Insignia Emblem.

The Collector's Edition of the game and the standard edition of Battlefield 1 will be released on October 21. The Collector's Edition will include a 14" statue, steel book case, cloth poster, playing cards, and exclusive patch and other DLC content.
