WHO IS ALAN R MOON?
Alan R Moon is a British-born board game designer who now lives in America. His first role within the industry was with Avalon Hill, after writing some articles for the company house magazine: The General. His first published game was Black Spy, with the backing from Avalon Hill in 1981.
Following a brief stint within the video game industry, Alan R Moon tried to design games for a living. The board game Airlines, published by Abacus in 1990, is considered to be the first of Moon's game to gain attention.
Several years later, following the creation of his own company, he was approached by Amigo Spiele regarding his game Elfenroads. The game was reworked to match their requirements, and was then published in 1998 as Elfenland. The game would win the prestigious Spiel des Jahres Award.
Since then, Moon has worked with several other designers and in 2001 had three games nominated for the Spiel des Jahres. Of course, his biggest game is Ticket to Ride, which won the 2004 award.
The Ticket to Ride series has gained mainstream coverage around the world, appearing in the New York Times and on hit TV show, The Big Bang Theory. It's seen by many as a gateway game.
THE TICKET TO RIDE GAME SERIES
The Ticket to Ride series is arguably what Alan R Moon is most well-known for. It was published by Days of Wonder in 2004 and has won several awards since then. The publisher now says that they've sold more than three million copies.
There have been several different expansions and sequels to the original game and there are now editions specifically for younger players (First Journey) and those looking for a quick game fix (New York).
It doesn't look like the series will slow down anytime soon either. Ticket to Ride Europe is constantly inside the top 10 selling games here at Zatu Games. There is also a London version of the game in the works, which is a sequel to the short New York game.
