Description

Triple bill of crime dramas directed by and starring Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano. In 'Violent Cop' (1989) Kitano stars as a renegade police officer known as Azuma who has a tendency for violence. Despite being known as rather eccentric in his approaches Azuma is generally regarded with respect by his fellow officers and superiors. However, when a local yakuza gang kidnap his sister, Azuma's violence knows no bounds as he sets about ensuring her safe return. In 'Boiling Point' (1990) Masaki (Masahiko Ono), an inept baseball player, has a run-in with the local yakuza when they threaten his coach. Determined to exact revenge Masaki sets about purchasing some guns. When he inadvertently meets with former gangster Uehara (Kitano), Masaki finds an ally who has his own reasons for wanting revenge. Together the unlikely duo take on the full might of the local criminal underworld. Finally, in 'Sonatine' (1993) Kitano stars as Murakawa, an influential gangster based in Tokyo. When he is sent to Okinawa to settle a local dispute Murakawa suspects that he has been set up. However, he decides to make the most of his time away and along with his men they enjoy their time at the beach as they wait for the inevitable arrival of their enemies.
