The Stormy Flight
Escape Rooms have become incredibly popular in recent years. Many venues across the UK offering varying themes and difficulties, with the aim of testing your knowledge, deduction, wit and determination all while being under the pressure of a timer. I have done a few escape rooms and they really do offer you a sense of enjoyment you will have never felt before doing one of these rooms.
My one criticism with these rooms however is the price. A group of 4 people can quickly add up and with the pandemic making it increasingly difficult to safely take part in these sort of escape rooms, you may find yourself looking for alternatives. This is where Kosmos Games step up to the plate with their offering of an escape room in a box! Exit: The Game is a series of small box games which each house a unique “escape room” experience for you to play at home. With the inclusion of app integration, you can have a very good experience with these games, and I am a real fan of the ones I have played thus far. In this review, however, we will focus on one of the latest additions to the series; The Stormy Flight.
Setup
If you have played Exit games before, then the materials included with the Stormy Flight will be very familiar to you, with the unique code wheel, booklet and various off cardboard pieces that will aid you in your escape. Of course, I won’t divulge any more information at risk of mentioning any spoilers, but be prepared to use everything in that box. Anything and everything could be a clue to assist in your escape! If you have a smartphone, the app makes it really easy for you to get started, with commentary and videos detailing set-up and a built-in timer for reference so I highly recommend downloading this before embarking on your escape adventure!
Thoughts
In terms of the story itself and the experience, The Stormy Flight was one of my favourites! It had a good mix of basic puzzles, advanced puzzles and ones that are slightly obscure and really make you think, but not so difficult that you end up using a stack of clues. Of course, clues are available to help you and some previous games, I have had to use many of them which impacts your score at the end. Sometimes the puzzles are so obscure that you lose some enjoyment however with The Stormy Flight, I didn’t come across this, but then this is due in part to the difficulty being 2 out of 5. I’ve found the difficulty rating to be fairly accurate with all the games however this is an ideal starting place as it offers a good challenge while not being too easy.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience with this Exit game. As mentioned, this is by far one of my favourites. Some of the puzzles are really unique, meaning you won’t feel as if it’s just another Exit game with a re-skin. All of the Exit games are fantastic and if you are looking for something to keep you entertained for an hour, instead of going to an actual escape room, then this will be perfect for you! Just remember though, as with any of the Exit games, once you’ve played it, you won’t be able to play it again, due to the nature of the materials used and how you have to use them to complete the puzzles.
