It's official, the Spiel Des Jahres winner for 2017 is... KINGDOMINO.
Kingdomino beat out Magic Maze and Race to El Dorado to claim the prestigious title and join the Spiel Des Jahres alumni like previous winners Codenames from 2016 and Colt Express from 2015.
The Spiel Des Jahres winner is an easy to learn game where you are a Lord seeking new lands in which to expand your kingdom.
Splendid Expansion for Splendor
You must explore all the lands, wheat fields, lakes, and mountains in order to spot the best plots. But be careful as some other Lords also covet these lands. Each turn, connect a new domino to your existing kingdom, making sure at least one of its sides connects to a matching terrain type.
The game ends when each player has completed a 5x5 grid, and then points are counted based on a number of connecting tiles and crowns.
Also announced with the Spiel des Jahres was the winner of the expert game of the year, Kennerspiel des Jahres, which was EXIT the Game. Exit the Game is a room escape series with three games so far and more planned to be released.
Asmodee has previewed the new expansion for Splendor - Cities of Splendor, which will be released at Gen Con 2017. Cities of Splendor contains four expansions for the critically acclaimed Splendor, offering not one, but four new ways to play the favoured classic—Cities, Trading Posts, Strongholds, and The Orient.
Each expansion from Cities of Splendor provides a new and exciting addition to the game, showcasing different parts of the base game as you travel throughout Europe in pursuit of glory and wealth. The southern sea winds have proven to be strong allies for the gem trading guilds of Europe.
Opening new trade routes for gems and precious stones across India, the guilds’ reach now extends far wider than ever before. Yet with this newly gained influence comes the need to adapt. Along with this new trade route to the Orient, which guild will harness the trading posts along the route and emerge the richest?

From Kickstarter to General Release
Cryptozoic Entertainment has announced the release of Train Heist. Creator Sean McDonald ran a successful Kickstarter campaign for the game in 2015 that earned double its initial funding goal, numerous positive reviews, and a place on BoardGameGeek’s “Hotness” list for most of that year.
Subsequently, Cryptozoic agreed to publish Train Heist in an effort to bring the game to a wider audience, working with McDonald to refine game play.
Train Hiest is a co-operative board game, where 2-4 players become cowboys in the Old West who must work together to stop the corrupt Sheriff and the rich folks of Notting County from stealing all of the townspeople’s earnings. Train Heist features wooden Cowboy miniature figures, which can be used to move across the map, ride one of the two horse miniatures, and hop aboard the moving train, represented by five miniature train cars that travel between the towns on the map.
After entering the train, the players move their figures to the top part of the game board, which provides a view of the inside of the train. Players then move their Cowboys from car to car and loot the wealthy passengers—with certain poker hands allowing players to steal certain loot—all while evading the ever-watchful Sheriff.
