Fantasy Flight Games are known primarily for their heavy games based on beloved franchises. This includes titles from games, movies and TV. They've just announced a new edition to their Fallout collection. Fallout Shelter looks like it will be the most faithful realisation of the franchise yet!
Fallout Shelter
For those unfamiliar with the cross platform post-apocalyptic sims game, Fallout Shelter puts you in charge of the everyday upkeep and expansion of a fabled vault. As your population expands, and the resources at your command become more advanced, you can venture out into the wastelands. There, you can complete challenges and missions to bring more wealth and prestige to your subterranean home sweet home.
You'll need to pay attention to your defence, however! Raiders, mutants and deathclaws will attack, whilst fires break out and rad roaches run riot. These must be dealt with!! Who would have thought that the end of the world would require so much housekeeping?
Fallout Shelter looks and plays very much like the digital version. However, in the analogue edition each player (2-4) will get a level to develop and two 'Pip Boy' figures to deploy. It's worker placement, but with ghouls, lasers and Nuka Cola.
Trained workers (using the familiar S.P.E.C.I.A.L. criteria) will bring you more resources, but happiness will win the game! A happy survivor is a busy survivor and vice versa.
Once one player has completed six rooms on their level, the game ends, but players must also along the way combat the perils mentioned above – fortunately, weapons and allies can be obtained along the way in forays to the above, and you can always send your pip boys and girls to the rest rooms to ‘make’ more pip boys and girls.
Coming Soon
Shelter looks every inch the Fallout game that a lot of us has been waiting for. However, you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer as this is due to be released, along with a rather fetching play mat, at the beginning of next year.
