Microsoft have revealed a brand-new console at their E3 2016 conference in LA. The new console is called the Xbox One S and was unveiled by the Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer.
The Xbox One S is an impressive 40% smaller than the original Xbox One and has the ability to play back videos in 4K Ultra HD. The Xbox One S is actually the smallest and most compact Xbox ever created.
The new console comes in a stunning white (known as Robot White) and black finish and an updated controller which features an increased Bluetooth range and textured grips.
The Xbox One S also features a bigger 2TB hard drive to store all of your games, videos, movies and music files.
Your games will look better than ever as well thanks to the console offering High Dynamic Range (HDR) support. This basically means that gamers will experience richer, more luminous colours in their games - with a higher contrast ratio between light and dark colours.
Following thousands of requests from Xbox players, the new console can also be placed vertically with a stand should you wish - just like the PlayStation 4.
One thing missing from the new console is the integrated Kinect sensor port, which means you will need to purchase an USB adaptor if you want to play on Kinect.
The Xbox One S will be released this August with the 2TB 'Launch Edition' expected to cost around £349. Two more versions of the console will follow with 1TB and 500GB consoles, costing £299 and £249 respectively.
Project Scorpio
Alongside the Xbox One S, Microsoft also announced another new console under the name of Project Scorpio. The console itself was not on show but a few details were given about Scorpio.
According to Microsoft, Project Scorpio will be the most powerful video game console ever built - featuring 6 teraflops of processing power and 8 CPU cores. What this means is full 4K resolution gaming and virtual reality games.
Project Scorpio will exist alongside the original Xbox One and the newly-unveiled Xbox One S consoles. Phil Spencer has also promised gamers that all Xbox games going forward will be compatible with all three consoles.
Fans eager to get their hands on this 4K console have quite a wait on their hands however as it is currently scheduled to be released around Christmas time 2017. At this moment no pricing has been discussed by Microsoft.
