“Battle of Legend” is a well known series of booster sets for the Yu-Gi-Oh! the Trading Card Game that started in 2017 and focuses on cards from the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, GX and 5D's TV series. Along the 6 sets released so far within the series, duellists were able to collect key support cards for meta-relevant decks along with some extremely good cards although most of them were extremely difficult to pull due to the very high rarity. I am surely a lot of people can relate if I say “Yubel”.
But now, the the fans of the Battle of Legend sets can rejoice as we finally have a chance to get all the cards we ever wanted as Konami is due to release in just a few days a compilation set including cards released along the six previous sets. Planned to hit the shelves on the 22nd of February, “Battles of Legend: Chapter 1” is a very anticipated set for many good reasons. First, the chosen format is similar to the 2022 “Hidden Arsenal” compilation set, thus we will have a small box containing two 18-card booster packs, one Secret Rare and 1 collectible dice. Each of the two packs will have 3 Ultra Rares, and 15 commons, for a total of 6 Ultra Rares and 30 commons. Nicely, two out of the three Ultra Rares you can pull from each pack will feature a silver foil name stamps making them different from the standard cards thus more collectible. I should also mention that four of the 36 Ultra-Rare cards of the set have a really nice alternate art you should look for.
Together with the two booster packs, each box set will include 1 of the 6 collectible dice, featuring "Cyber Dragon", "Judgment Dragon", "Elemental HERO Stratos", "Number 11: Big Eye", "Salamangreat Almiraj", or "Black Luster Soldier". This last one, unfortunately, will be exclusive of some boxes you can buy only in “GAME” franchise stores but it will only matter if you are aiming to complete the full set.
Last but not least, each Battles of Legend: Chapter 1 box will contain 1 out of 10 Secret Rare cards: "Number 11: Big Eye" , “Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos", "Elemental HERO Stratos”, "Elemental HERO Absolute Zero", "Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju", "Dark Armed, the Dragon of Annihilation", "Neos Wiseman", "Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate", "Xtra HERO Infernal Devicer", or "Cyber Slash Harpie Lady". Interestingly, the text on Number 39: Utopia will be written in astral language as a perk of this set.
How good is Battles Of Legend: Chapter 1?
Basing on the released card list, I think Battles Of Legend: Chapter 1 will definitely be a good set to collect with a lot of playable cards, both archetype-specific and generic. In fact, there is a high chance to pull very meta-relevant cards from this compilation that can easily find a place in your competitive decks.
Most important, among them there are some reprints that have been quite difficult/ expensive to gather in the past years making Chapter 1 a worthy set to collect at least for the opportunity to get them. Just to name a few, the Ultra-Rare cards of this set include Number 39: Utopia, Chaos Emperor, the Dragon of Armageddon, Number 90: Galaxy Photon Lord, Cyber Slash Harpie Lady, and Yubel. I also spotted “Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn”, which will be good to have to support the newer Lightsworns archetype cards that will release in “Legacy of Destruction” set in April 2024. Elemental HERO Absolute Zero, an excellent staples for the HERO decks, is also another good example of a nice card you can pull from this set but the list is really quite long to name all of them.
Overall, I quite like how Battles Of Legend: Chapter 1 has been put together and I am really looking forward to open a few boxes and see what cards I can pull. Word of advise, the stock is likely to go quite fast thus I strongly recommend to pre-order it as soon as possible as Zatu has already limited the amount that can be purchased per person.
