Description

Scythe, from Stonemaier Games, is quite possibly a modern classic. The game comes with gorgeous components, including mech minis which give the impression that Scythe is more of a war game than it is. In reality, Scythe is a clever action selection game where you will spend time upgrading your personal player mat to give you cheaper and more rewarding actions.

Yes, you could fight but you would always have to consider the cost of doing so to yourself. The base game also came with a lot in built in variety. The player boards were separate from the faction boards meaning you could pair these up in different ways. Scythe is more about resource management and racing to objectives than battling it out in mechs.

Following the main game came several expansions including Invaders from Afar (more factions), The Wind Gambit (Airships for everyone!) and Rise of Fenris (A legacy style campaign). Alongside these options are the more cosmetic component upgrades, including metal mechs for the discerning Scthyer.

This Modular Board Expansion is allegedly the last expansion planned for Scythe, and it adds even more variety. Taking the original board and giving you fours double-sided large seven hex tiles to place allows you to set-up the board in interesting and different configurations. There are some rules around how you place them which stops the game from becoming unbalanced.

Also new is the ability to change the starting area for each faction. On the original board this was predetermined taking into account the faction's unique abilities. This is not an expansion that adds new mechanics but one that changes up the familiar to give players a fresh challenge. Whether you are new to Scythe or have played loads you will find something to explore here.
