NEWS: Legions Imperialis

As all fans of Warhammer 40K know, “There is no time for peace. No forgiveness. No respite. There is only war”. And that's exactly why, just a few days after releasing the new “Leviathan” core set and updated rules, Games Workshop has double down by announcing the long awaited return of the Epic scale and the upcoming release of “Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Legions Imperialis”.

Warhammer Epic was a very successful Games Workshop's game line in the '90s that was progressively abandoned for other game systems. Set in the dark grim future of Warhammer 40K, Epic allowed the player to stage massive exploited 6-8mm miniatures and a streamlined battle system. Epic was able to bring to the table thousands of miniature and the massive engine of destruction of the Adeptus Titanicus (and their alien counterparts of course).

Now, after a long wait the “Epic” scale is fully back with a great core box set in Horus Heresy, a civil war that splits the Imperium of mankind in two, putting the units of Legiones Astartes, Solar Auxilia, Knight Households, and the Titan Legions against one another. The new Legions Imperialis will allow to bring to this conflict with 106 Space Marine infantry and walkers, 5 Space Marine tanks, 104 Solar Auxilia infantry and walkers, 6 Solar Auxilia tanks, and 2 Warhound Titans for a whopping 223 miniatures in total.

From what we have been able to see, the scale of the models will be slightly bigger than the older ones and will likely be heroic 8-10mm with the Solar Auxilia infantry being around 6-8 mm. None of the miniatures in the box seems to be Legion specific so they can be painted as Loyalists or Traitors depending on everyone preference. Moreover, the scale of the model will make them fully compatible with the models of game lines Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis to allow to bring even more firepower to the field.

Warhammer 40K: The Horus Heresy Legions Imperialis is set to be release in August and there is high expectations that this will be the first of a long list of great products in a new Epic scale!
