Today's spotlight sees us delving down into the Earth as we take a look at Caverna: The Cave Farmers.
Caverna is a worker placement game during which you will play as the leader of a small Dwarven family trying to expand your home and cultivate your fields. The game takes up to seven players and has a playing time of roughly 30 minutes per player.
The Game
Love Agricola but wish it had more cave digging? Well if so this is the game for you!! Caverna puts a Dwarven twist on the board gaming classic. Growing crops and expanding your family is still a vital part of the game, but in addition to this you may now sharpen your axe and go on expeditions, as well as delving deeper into the mountain to try and uncover rubies and ore.
Buildings that were just cards in Agricola now take the form of buildings in this rework of the original.
No matter how lovingly you have built you cave and no matter how many dogs you have raised like most meeple placement games at the end its only your victory points that matter, so whether you are digging, sowing or raising goats you must have a well developed strategy to win.
The publisher
Lookout Games is a German board game publisher that was founded in 2000 by Hanno Girke, Uwe Rosenberg and Marcel-Andre Merkle. Starting out with the card game Attribut and moving into Agricola in 2007, Lookout Games have had some great releases, netting German Game Prizes for several of them.
Even ten years after its release Agricola still ranks in the top 100 games of all time.
