Eighty-four trick or treaters knocked my door this year! That’s twenty more than last year, no idea how many sweets I’ll need for next year with the new housing development on the way and all that. I wouldn’t be surprised if I break the one-hundred mark. Amongst the revellers were my two boys. The one-year-old went as a skeleton, while my four-year-old went as Spiderman (the Miles Morales version).
He went through a few ideas before settling on the webslinger. First he wanted to go as a Pikmin, two weeks later it was AstroBot, at one point he wanted to go as Genji from Overwatch. He kept changing his mind right up until the day before, but he kept switching back to Spiderman so I purchased that one I constantly bigged it up.
This in turn made for an interesting conversation at the school gates. With one of my son’s friends saying he was going as a dragon and dragons are stronger than Spiderman. My son disagreed citing that “Tobots beat a dragon and so can Thor”. It was a mic drop moment.
But that’s all a distant memory in my son’s world now, he was done with Halloween the moment his Spiderman costume came off and pyjama’s went on. Just this morning he started on Christmas and asking when he can write a letter to Santa. I’m worried as he gets hyper-fixated on something for a few weeks and then will instantly switch to something else. So his list, if done too soon, could be obsolete come Christmas Day. My Christmas list to Santa is much easier, it’s all videogames. I know what I like.
I’m currently playing: On Switch I’ve jumped back into Two Point Campus. On PlayStation 5 I’ve been playing Overwatch 2, Gotham Knights and Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022).
I’m currently hyped for: On Switch I’ll be catching ‘em all in Pokemon Scarlet. While on PlayStation 5 it’s a horror hat-trick with The Callisto Protocol, the Dead Space Remake and the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
New Games
October gave us the first of the Christmas wishlist big-hitters - Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022) on PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We also got Persona 5 Royal (PS5 & Xbox Series X|S), Gotham Knights (PS5), Tiny Troopers Global Ops (PS4, PS5 and Switch), and Tin Heroes (PS4 & PS5).
November starts off with WRC Generations (PS4 and Switch) on the 3rd, Death’s Door (PS5 and Switch) won’t be far behind on the 4th. Cobra Kai 2 (PS5 and Switch) will be kicking it’s way to us on the 8th as will Sonic Frontiers (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch). The on the 9th Playstation owners will be celebrating with the release of long-awaited God of War” Ragnarok. On the 11th we get Atari 50 (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S), Autonauts (PS4 and Switch) and Hidden Through Time (PS4 and Switch). Doctor Who (PS4 and Switch) arrives on the 15th just behind Switch exclusives Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet on the 18th. Evil West (PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) rounds things off on the 22nd.

This month saw the less than ideal launch of Overwatch 2 and it’s horrendous pricing for cosmetics (£16 for a skin?!). On the plus side Blizzard is sending out questionnaires, seemingly at random, to players to gauge their views on the store.
In keeping with the spookiness of October we were treated to two showcases of iconic horror franchises. With Konami revealing a bunch of Silent Hill stuff, including a Silent Hill 2 remake, are on the way. While Capcom gave us more information on the Resident Evil 4 REmake and the upcoming release of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition.
Bayonetta 3 got into hot water with the titular character’s original voice actress - Hellena Taylor - claiming she didn’t return for the third title due to only being offered $4,000 for the job. She called for fans to boycott the game. Instead of that, fans of Taylor sent online abuse to Nintendo, people who worked on Bayonetta 3 and Bayonetta’s new voice actress - Jennifer Hale. Meanwhile Bloomberg investigated and found the Hellena Taylor was lying and that she was offer $15,000, which she turned down and was subsequently offered $4,000 for a cameo. Taylor later admitted she lied, apologised and, in a thinly-veiled attempt to farm some karma, put up a list of her favourite charities that people could donate money towards. One of which is an anti-abortion organisation... you can’t make this stuff up.
But there has also been some good news! Devil May Cry 5 has now surpassed 5 million copies sold. We’ve been treated to several in-depth looks at God of War: Ragnarok ahead of it’s release this month including it’s four graphical modes. And 343 Industries have partnered with Limbitless Solutions and are offering more Halo-themed prosthetics to children with limb loss. So there is still some good in the world!
