Calling all Villagers, Diamond Miners, and portal hunters; the Minecraft universe is getting two new additions!
That’s right, Ravensburger have announced two new board games that build on the expansive world of Minecraft. Both being released this year straight to store. Both being targeted at a wide age range, they offer a wide variety of themes and gameplay that are bound to appeal to every Minecraft aficionado.
First up, we have Minecraft: Portal Dash, a cooperative adventure game for 1-4 players. Teams must work together to safely make their way through lava filled chambers as quickly as they can without perishing in the danger below.
During a turn, players must mine for resources or use weapons to defend themselves from the foes that await them. As they progress through the game, they will encounter more powerful equipment and increasingly dangerous foes. Only by working together can they make it out safely with all their treasures intact.
At first glance, components appear to include colourful blocks, character card stands, tiles, and custom dice. Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on this new adventure and see what lies on the other sides of the portal.
Minecraft Heroes of the Village is another cooperative adventure game for 2-4 players.. However, this board game is directed to a much younger audience than the previous new addition. In this game, players use their turns to gather blocks from the world around them, stockpile resources and build defences before invading waves of intruders knock at their gates.
The components also seem to be tailored to a younger audience, through colourful illustrations and easy to learn mechanics. Personally, I love cooperative survival games, so I can see this being a really fun game for kids to play with their family, and one that’s slightly different from the board games they would normally play.
