Epic Resort: Villain’s Vacation Review

Epic Resort: Villain's Vacation Review

What happens when your tropical island resort becomes so successful that heroes come to it regularly? What happens when business begins to slump? Well, you have to diversify, either to attract new tourists or even to cater for those coming to see your many heroes and fight them. That’s where Epic Resort: Villain’s Vacation comes in.

Adding a host of Villains that you can attract as well as new attractions, tourist types and even workers, Villain's Vacation is a small expansion for the Floodgate Games worker placement deck builder; Epic Resort.

And of course, it also introduces the deadly Kraken, that will loom and lurk on the outskirts of the island before attacking one resort whole-hog!

Villain's Vacation Gameplay

Villains’ Vacation adds no new gameplay to Epic Resort, just variations on the original theme. Now you can try and attract Villains who work similarly to Heroes, though they don’t protect anyone and often have a negative to offset their higher Victory Points. Mad Mages set fire to attractions, whilst Necromancers summon zombie Tourists to help you out.

The new workers include very specific workers who may never come into use, some assist villains or heroes, but there are also new workers specific to each of the Attack! deck cards who can neutralise the threats if they come out. The new tourists are often attracted more to villains and when things go wrong and the new attractions provide bonuses for your villains.

Perhaps the most exciting addition though is the Kraken, a looming ultimate attack that will hit all of your attractions once it has gained enough tourist meeples on it.

Final Thoughts on Villain's Vacation

The Villain's Vacation expansion adds new variety and options to the game, but does nothing to change the actual gameplay or to add more complexity. There are just more choices and extra doses of humour.
