Apple and Nintendo confirm Super Mario Run

Nintendo fans were full of excitement last night after Super Mario Run was announced alongside the brand-new Apple iPhone 7 smartphone. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto made the announcement on stage at Apple's event in San Francisco.

Super Mario Run is the first-ever Super Mario smartphone game and will initially be exclusive to the iPhone and iPad devices.

About Super Mario Run

Super Mario Run sees the famous carpenter making his way through the levels at his own speed, with players having to touch their screens in order to make him jump and avoid obstacles, defeat enemies, collect coins and capture the end of level flags.

There are three modes on the game including the classic run-to-the-flag standard mode and a battle mode where gamers can take on their friends and other players around the world via the internet. A third mode is said to allow players to build their own Mushroom Kingdoms.

From the looks of the initial gameplay footage, which you can see below, this new game heads back to Mario's routes. The Super Mario games were hugely successful, and addictive, back on the old Gameboy and DS handheld devices.

Release Information

Super Mario Run is scheduled to be released in December for IOS devices. No information has been released as of yet when it comes to a potential release on Android - but both Nintendo and Apple have promised that the game will be available at some point in the future.

Both companies are hoping that this new adventure can enjoy similar success to the recent Pokemon Go mobile game. This saw people across the country heading outside to hunt down and catch Pokemon in their local areas.

No price has been given as of yet but unlike with most games available on the app store, Super Mario Run will be available at a fixed price - with no in-app purchasing!
