Sink your teeth into this. Bush's Board Game Thing sees Andy Bush celebrating board games and the experience of gaming with friends Elouise Carr and Brian Murphy. Each week, expect passion, enthusiasm, and multiple trips through gaming wormholes. This podcast is powered by Zatu - we're making sure the board game cogs keep on turning. Each week, I'll be bringing you the best bits here on the blog and letting you shop the podcast! In this episode, Andy and the gang are taking a look at Vampire themed games!
Do you have something that you'd like to share with the team? Maybe a great board game idea? Even when and where you like to listen to the podcast, set the scene. Email [email protected] if you want to get involved with the podcast. For example, if you have any board game disputes, let Andy and co get to the bottom of it!
This week, Andy, Brian, and Elouise have a blood-chilling (or should I blood thrilling?) time playing Thousand Year Old Vampire. They also discuss some of the best vampire themed and generally spooky games on the board game market. Here are some of our personal favourites!
Escape the Dark Castle
Let us begin with Escape the Dark Castle's beautiful art noir box. We have a delectably detailed castle in front of a hanging full moon and dark sky. The artwork is where Escape the Dark Castle's allure begins, but certainly not where it ends.
Players take on the roles of prisoners trapped within the dark castle and together they must, you guessed it, escape the dark castle! A spine-tingling cooperative game, the rounds work like chapters in a storybook as players decide whether to take such actions as bribing the guars or attacking them. Each character has a unique predetermined skill set to help, or hinder, them in these tasks.
The aim of the game is to complete every chapter in the deck and defeat the final boss. Oh, and all players must have survived the dark castle's clutches...
Horrified
In Horrified, players work cooperatively to defeat Hollywood's most malodorous monsters. We're talking Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon. All come in the form of high-quality miniatures with this game.
The monsters have different levels of difficulty and players must work together using different strategies to beat the monsters' individual strengths.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Vendetta
You play as a group of immortal vampires in this game. However, being indefinitely enduring is not your only talent needed in this game. You must scheme, you must lie, and you must betray to gain influence and power over mere mortals and make them your servants. Play cards and blood to earn this control and your ultimate goal is to gain the most influence over three ages.
As you play you must learn the strengths and abilities of your opponents. However, they are changing constantly as the centuries go by. Don't forget - everyone you are watching, will be watching you too.
