Zombicide: Wulfsburg, an expansion pack for Zombicide: Black Plague, adds a number of new and innovative features to enhance your Zombicide experience. Let's set the scene by quoting the publishers of Wulfsburg:
"The opening days of the zombie war saw the kingdom shattered. The strongest and smartest among us only survived through mass zombicide. We had no idea just how far the invasion had spread until we learned that the king’s forces were scattered to the winds like leaves and most of the great cities had fallen. However, rumors persisted of holdouts in Wulfsburg. If we can take back one city, we can take them all back! We’ll liberate Wulfsburg and save its stalwart holdouts. We’ll teach them all the true meaning of…ZOMBICIDE!"
New Zombies
The first feature of this expansion is the two new zombie models which come included in the box, namely, zombiewolfz and wolfbominations.
The unique ability of the wolf models is that they have three actions each, in comparison with earlier models such as the runner zombies (two actions) and standard walkers (one action), making them particularly difficult to counter. Beware these zombies, as they can advance across the board extremely quickly, and can be bearing down upon your heroes before you know it!
New Tiles
The Zombicide: Wulfsburg expansion also adds two new game tiles (double-sided), which appear in the 10 new scenarios featured in the back of the Wulfsburg rule book. These tiles are towers, and enable your heroes to take to the high ground, striking at a distance with ranged weapons over the streets and buildings.
Equipment & Heroes
Wulfsburg also contains 10 magic equipment cards. Magic equipment cards are equipment cards in every aspect, but feature a specific Danger Level pre-requisite of their own, represented visually by gems on each card. This means your heroes have to ‘level-up’ before using the most powerful of these.
The game features four new heroes, as well, which can be added into any game. Finally, Zombicide: Wulfsburg adds an ‘Ultrared Mode’. This enables heroes to level up and gain extra experience, beyond and way past the red Danger Level.
Components
The models are all well sculpted, the new wolfbomination looks particularly impressive! The quality of all the cards, models and tiles is all in line with what we’ve come to expect from a quality CMON production. The artwork is superb.
Adding all these new elements to the core Black Plague experience is easy, and intuitive to do – you can paste and copy whichever of the new elements you want, to your core Black Plague set.
Final Thoughts on Zombicide: Wulfsburg
All these new features easily make Zombicide: Wulfsburg well worth the money. The new zombie types alone, and the 10 new scenarios are enough extra content to warrant purchasing the expansion. Fans of Zombicide will find much here to like.
The 10 new scenarios are varied enough and are an interesting tactical challenge. The thematic inclusion of the wolves fits in well with the Zombicide: Black Plague overall feel, and adds to the medieval setting which Black Plague epitomises.
It will be brilliant in the future to see how Black Plague develops, and I’m eagerly looking forward to the new Orc themed additions to the Black Plague family and franchise.
