I love The Sims 4, but after dozens of hours of play, I can start to feel desperate for interesting things to do. Luckily, The Sims 4 continues on the legacy of the previous Sims games, in that there are some weird little secret tasks and Easter Eggs to find. If you're looking for particularly strange things to do in The Sims 4, try these out:
1. Become A Grilled Cheese Master
The Sims 4 has aspirations, which give your sims some life goals. Each one has a series of tasks, and you'll gain bonuses in the form of satisfaction points. Satisfaction points can be used to pay for rewards like 'Never Weary', which means your sim won't need to sleep anymore.
Generally, aspirations are worth doing, but the grilled cheese aspiration is a fun one. You can unlock it by cooking 3 single-serving grilled cheese in a row (your sim has to eat them too for it to count). You'll see the next steps in the 'aspirations' tab.
Your sim will have to cook a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches (and talk about them a lot), but the ultimate reward is actually pretty handy. Plus, as a fringe benefit, your sim will gain the ability to create some incredible grilled-cheese-related paintings.
2. Romance Father Winter
This is a judgment-free zone, right? I found out recently you can, erm, 'romance' Father Winter. The Sims' version of Santa, Father Winter visits during Winterfest if you have the Seasons expansion pack. He'll leave presents and decorations for your Sims, and you can chat to him as though he is a regular townie.
In fact, you can strike a close friendship with Father Winter. If you try hard enough, you can convince him to take a quick WooHoo break.
A child born from Father Winter will gain the unique trait, 'Father Winter's Baby'. This gives the child a boost: they'll gain more satisfaction from completing whims, which is a nice bonus.
3. Encounter Evil Chickens
In The Sims 4: Cottage Living, the team reintroduced the evil chicken (first seen in The Sims 3). To find him, you'll need to make a Midnight Treat for your chicken, and feed it to them. Your chicken will transform from an innocent being into something more sinister.
If you have a bad relationship with your chicken, this could backfire. If you have a good relationship with your new evil pal, you can ask them to help protect you from vampires, foxes, and even the Grim Reaper.
You can go the other way and feed your chicken a Golden Treat instead. Golden chickens are more likely to lay golden eggs, which you can sell for a lot of Simoleons. Plus, if you ask them for help, they'll raise the quality of any produce near it, including other eggs laid by your regular hens.
4. Cursing Sims With Power Of Mer-People
The Sims 4: Island Living introduces mermaids to the game. Playing as a mermaid adds an interesting challenge to the game. They long for the water, and need to spend a lot of time swimming to stay happy.
These sims have access to some interesting powers. For example, you can call over a dolphin, give a lucky sim a Mermaid's Kiss, and even change the weather if you also have Seasons installed.
If you want to switch things up a bit, you can get your mermaid sim to 'Summon Ocean Threat', which is not that fun for other sims. Or, you can try out the 'Siren's Call'. In shallow water, your sim will sing a haunting tune before pulling another sim underwater.
5. Die From Laughter
Sometimes you just want to kill off your sims. I won't judge, we've all been there. The Sims 4 allows for all sorts of inventive death scenarios, but I find the 'death by laughter' route to be quite haunting.
Your sim can die from laughter, but it takes a bit of effort to get to that stage. You'll have to make them feel 'Playful' by watching comedy shows, reading the book 'Make Them Laugh 'Til They Cry!', eating certain types of pancakes, and having a bubble bath can help them to get in a good mood. Keep stacking these activities and your sim will eventually become hysterical, clutch their heart, and drop dead.
There are other 'death by emotions' too. They can also die from embarrassment and rage, too. If you'd rather avoid this, you can switch off emotion-related deaths in the settings, allowing your sim to enjoy bubble baths and gummy-bear pancakes without risking them suddenly kicking the bucket.
I hope this has helped you to bring some excitement back into your gameplay! There are a lot of hidden tasks and fun things to do in The Sims 4 - you just need to know where to look.
