What do you get if your cross Blackjack with Maths? 21x by Naylor Games.
This clever 'Twist' on Blackjack has players simultaneously trying to score 21 (or as close to it as possible, but never 20).
Two cards are dealt to all players, and then they are revealed at the same time. Whenever an N is on a card, that is equal to the number of cards a player has in front of them (so 2 at the start). X can be any whole number a player chooses (positive or negative).
Players simultaneously 'math' both of their cards remembering that X has to be the same whole number on all cards. If a player can reach 21, they let everyone else know and call out what they want their X to be. If correct, they win the round. If wrong, they are out of the round. You can always twist and take a new card, but this will increase the value of N. You can call Stick and stop on any number lower than 20 (declaring what your X number is). If your maths is correct, all other players have 1 minute to try to beat your number.
The game is super portable as it is just a pack of cards. The artwork on the card faces and backs is super satisfying and gives the game a very luxurious feel.
The deck of cards is made up of three levels of difficulty to play with, so you can remove some of the cards to play an easy or medium version of the game.
I can see the game being used by families to help children with mental maths and equations. I can also see the game being loved by University professors as well as gamers alike. But be warned, if you play with a better mathematician, you will be destroyed.
There is a really satisfying puzzle element to the game which, combined with the mental gymnastics, leads to a satisfaction rarely felt when completing a maths equation.
The game is super quick, easy to teach, and looks great on the table.
This game hits Kickstarter soon. Please follow it to find out more details. https://naylorgames.com/pages/21x
